Launch of Goodman Derrick Technology Group

This month sees the launch of a new, specialist Technology group within Goodman Derrick.   Spearheaded by partner Paul Webb, the team also includes Jack Diamond, Alison Downie, Paul Herbert, Tristan Mutimer and Debbie Rider.

The Group provides advice and input to a wide range of technology-focused businesses, across sectors including information technology, internet, digital media, cleantech, biotechnology and other life sciences.  It aims to support the realisation of our clients’ ideas, and the successful commercial exploitation of products and services based on know-how or intellectual property rights.

The Group has also joined forces with Amoo Venture Capital Advisory to host a series of monthly events at our offices.  The events are targeted at entrepreneurs seeking early-stage funding for their businesses, and each event will be based around a theme relevant to start-up technology businesses.

Over fifty entrepreneurs, funders and mentors attended the first event in the series which took place on 24 July and took on its theme “Technologies in Sport”.  Goodman Derrick partner Stephen Hornsby gave an introduction to current legal issues affecting the use of sports related data and the potentially compelling rights of sponsors, broadcasters and consumers.  Five new businesses then presented their ideas and answered potential investors’ queries.  The attendees voted to decide on the most promising business proportion before making the most of the networking opportunities offered.

Please visit the Amoo website events page for details of forthcoming events http://www.amoo.co.uk/resources/upcoming-events/

Goodman Derrick Advises Lead Funder on Concentra Funding Round

Solon Ventures was the lead funder amongst a group of institutional and private investors.

Concentra is a leading technology and business consulting firm utilising data analytics via a proprietary SaaS (software as a service) platform, helping businesses improve operational performance.  Its products are used across business sectors, but with particular application in healthcare-related businesses.

Concentra recently won the Sunday Times Tech Track 2011 award for technology innovation and was recognised as 26th in the Top 100 growing technology companies in the UK.

The new funding is to be used in part to realise the interests of founder shareholders, and in part to provide working capital for the further development of Concentra’s business.

Solon Ventures is a venture capital firm investing in the healthcare and technology sectors.

Corporate partner Paul Webb commented: “We were delighted to act for Solon Ventures in relation to the Concentra funding round.  Concentra is an exciting business which has embarked on an impressive growth trajectory.  Acting for market leading innovative companies and their funders is an important part of Goodman Derrick’s own successful growth strategy”.
